At Kauffman Museum we know that experiences outside the classroom are crucial to learning and expanding a student’s view of the world.

Field Trips

Can you jump as far as a jack rabbit? Where did kids sleep in a one-room log cabin? Would you like to hold an ancient stone arrowhead? Kauffman Museum field trips offer tours for schoolchildren based on Kansas State Department of Education science and social studies standards. Seasoned docents aim to educate and inspire your class while surrounding them with authentic artifacts and specimens. Ask us about adapting age-graded tour themes for your multi-age group or to develop your own visit plan.

Themes

Science Focus
  • Prairie Animals, Tallgrass Prairie, Measuring Up Down and All Around, and more!
Social Studies Focus
  • Immigrants to the Prairie, Plains Indians, Farmstead on the Prairie, and more!

Teaching Kits

Can’t fit in a field trip? Let us bring Kauffman Museum’s teaching collections to you! Ready-to-go Teaching Kits contain activity suggestions and objects for hands-on learning about world cultures, American history, and the bison. Please ask about other artifacts or specimens that would enliven your teaching (hint: the burrowing owl is a frequent flyer in our lending program). Teaching Kits are available first-come-first-served and may be checked out for FREE for two weeks per classroom or three weeks per school.

A complete list of Teaching Kits is included in the Field Trip Guidelines.

Transportation Reimbursement

Any school group that arrives at the museum by bus may request reimbursement for travel expenses up to $100 per school per visit. Reimbursements are available on a first come first served basis.

After your class visits the museum, download and send the Reimbursement Form. Proof of payment to a bus services company or written verification of mileage and driver costs from the school’s transportation office must accompany the Reimbursement Request Form.

Contact Andi Schmidt Andres at asa@bethelks.edu or 316-283-1612 to make a reservation for your group and to reserve your reimbursement.
