Education
The Other Classroom
Each year several thousand K-12 students from public and private schools and home-schooled children take advantage of guided visits through the museum. Kauffman Museum’s education programs also connect with college professors and students, church groups, and the local retirement community. Everyone learns at Kauffman Museum!
Field Trips
Kauffman Museum offers special thematic tours for school classes from K-6, based on state standards. An outstanding collection of historical artifacts, mounted animals and the prairie reconstruction allow close-up learning outside of the classroom setting.
Bring Back the Buses
Beginning in the fall of 2016, teachers and school administrators may apply for transportation reimbursement through our Bring Back the Buses program.
Teaching Kits
Kauffman Museum also lends objects for demonstration in the classroom and has a number of “teaching kits” for checkout at no charge.
Celebrate Kansas Day!
To honor our state, Kauffman Museum devotes the last Saturday of every January to a free afternoon of indoor and outdoor programs and activities for all ages.
Mark your calendar and join us at the museum!
Educational Bus Tours
Every year museum staff organize a multi-day and one-day motorcoach trip to museums and cultural attractions within Kansas and surrounding states for Kauffman Museum Association Members. Travel in comfort with like-minded companions. Come learn with us as we travel to award-winning attractions and hidden treasures.
College Connections
Kauffman Museum welcomes collaborations with students seeking hands-on museum experience. Over the years undergraduate and graduate students have assisted in collections management, educational programming, exhibition curation, and design, and conducted research on the prairie reconstruction and
historical topics. To discuss your interests and options contact the Kauffman Museum director.
Uncle Carl's Camps
Six day-camps – Uncle Carl’s Camps – are scheduled in the months of June and July. Camps are designed for discovery, exploration and creativity. Kids in grades K-12 can choose from a variety of engaging topics.
