DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to announce that Kauffman Museum First Saturday Bird Walks will resume this Saturday\, July 4th. \nOur First Saturday Bird Walks depart from the kiosk in the museum parking lot for a mile-and-a-half hike through Chisholm Park and along Sand Creek Trail. Be prepared for some unpaved/steep terrain. Binoculars and a bird book are recommended but not required. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome but should be able to remain quiet so they don’t scare away the birds! \nThe event will take place outside. Wear a mask and social distance. We recommend practicing social distancing by maintaining a six-feet distance or more from fellow bird watchers. Bring your own mask! Bring water if you struggle with heat as it will be hot. \nThe photo for the month of July features a Warbling Vireo.

DESCRIPTION:Behind the Mask 1 & 2 will be combined and held June 8-12. The camp will be held virtually starting at 9:00 am with a daily interactive meeting\, pre-recorded instructions on the day’s project\, online references\, and time to check in with the teacher. All supplies and a t-shirt will be distributed prior to camp. There will be an online art show at the end of the week. \nWho in the world wears masks? Campers will explore cultures that make masks and the ceremonies of those cultures. Native American traditions and the influence of the African culture on today’s American celebrations\, such as Mardi Gras in New Orleans\, will provide ideas for mask making projects. DESCRIPTION:Announcing Audubon’s 120th Christmas Bird Count and Halstead-Newton’s 70th year participating in community science data.\nYour participation continues to be important! \nInformation:\n• WHERE: Groups will meet at the Museum (27th and Main in\nNorth Newton) at 6:45 AM for group organization and\npaperwork. The final compilation is planned at the Museum at 4:45 PM.\n• WHEN: All regular participants are asked to be on the count for 8 hours if possible. If you cannot participate for the entire day\, it is helpful to find another person to fill out your 8-hour time period. Please let the organizer know of any arrangements that are made.\n• WHO: New participants are welcomed. You are encouraged to recruit other interested persons! Children are welcome. (Note that individuals 12 or under should be accompanied by an adult)\n• WHAT: Bring a pair of binoculars and a sack lunch. (KM will be open at noon for groups who want to eat lunch indoors.) A birding field guide is also helpful. \nContact the organizer by December 12\, so that groups can be appropriately organized. Past group leaders can count circles that they have counted previously. DESCRIPTION:Join experienced birders as they spot feathered friends!\nOur First Saturday Bird Walk departs from the kiosk in the museum parking lot for a mile-and-a-half hike through Chisholm Park and along the Sand Creek Trail. Be prepared for some unpaved/steep terrain. Binoculars and a bird book are recommended but not required. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome but should be able to remain quiet so they don’t scare away the birds!
