DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited\nto support the 39th annual\n  \nLiving Endowment Dinner\nfor Kauffman Museum\n  \nKidron Hall\, Kidron Bethel Village\n3001 Ivy Drive\, North Newton\, KS\nFriday\, November 14\, 2025 \nREGISTER HERE\n\n  \n6:00 p.m. Reception at Welcome Center of Kidron Bethel Village\nBeverages provided by Grace Hill Winery \n6:30 p.m. Dinner in Kidron Hall\, Kidron Bethel Village \nAfter Dinner\nMusical Selections by Jacob & Timothy Schrag \n“Speaking in Defense of the Marginalized: Mennonite Rhetoric in World War I as an Enactment of Paradox” \nDr. Susan Schultz Huxman\, president emeritus Eastern Mennonite University\, Harrisonburg\, Virginia \nThis presentation\, based on Dr. Huxman’s dissertation and several scholarly articles\, examines the ways in which Mennonites\, as a marginalized group\, wrestled with separation and assimilation in novel and disarming rhetorical patterns not captured in the predominant literature. Through advocacy on Capitol Hill\, courageous encounters with patriotic angry neighbors\, and managing reputations in the church\, Mennonites used a “purification through transformation” approach to sidestep difficult questions of identity\, confound traditional expectations for self-defense\, and maintain the faith with few losses of church membership. \n  \n\n  \nRSVP for dinner no later than end of business Friday\, November 7\nPlease include the name(s) of persons attending as well as any dietary restrictions and any mobility/accessibility considerations in the order notes field at checkout. \nQuestions? Phone: 316-283-1612 Email: cshenk@bethelks.edu
