SUMMARY:Five Places of Christmas at Kauffman Museum
DESCRIPTION:Newton-area museums welcome the public to “Five Places of Christmas” from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday\, Dec. 5. The annual holiday open house is a collaborative event among the Carriage Factory Art Gallery\, Harvey County Historical Museum\, Kauffman Museum\, Warkentin House\, and Bethel College Women’s Association. This year\, the Bethel College Women’s Association and Harvey County Historical Museum will host virtual events while Kauffman Museum\, Warkentin House\, and Carriage Factory Gallery will be open with free admission and COVID precautions in place. Be sure to contact each site for its safety requirements. \nThe Crossroads exhibit will open during “Five Places of Christmas” at Kauffman Museum. Visitors to Kauffman Museum\, located at 27th and Main streets in North Newton\, can enjoy the museum as well as the Smithsonian exhibit\, Crossroads: Change in Rural America\, and the local companion exhibit\, Of Land & People: Our Community at the Crossroads of Change. SUMMARY:Of Land and People: Our Community at the Crossroads of Change
DESCRIPTION:North Newton is strategically located at a historic crossroads in south-central Kansas. Of Land and People: Our Community at the Crossroads of Change celebrates the land on which our museum and community is placed\, honors the people who have lived and worked on it\, and invites visitors to reflect on the profound changes that have occurred here. \nOf Land and People will introduce the story of First Kansans who hunted and traveled along Sand Creek; ponder the changes to the prairie and the enrichment to our community brought by immigrants; and explore the rich legacy of trails past and present in our town. \nThis exhibition is a local companion exhibit to the current special Smithsonian exhibit\, “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” that is showing at Kauffman Museum through Jan. 17.  This exhibit is FREE to view on Saturdays.
