DESCRIPTION:Kauffman Museum normally offers a First Saturday Bird Walk. Beginning at 9:30 on September 4\, the monthly walk will include poetry in an event sponsored by Humanities Kansas. Leaders Megan Kaminski and Molly Zahn\, who both teach at the University of Kansas in Lawrence\, will lead the beginner-friendly poetry and bird walk oriented to connecting participants to the natural bird habitat near Kauffman Museum and sparking conversation about our relationship with our common home. The event will begin at the Kauffman Museum front door and follow a handicapped accessible route along a 3/4-mile concrete path. DESCRIPTION:Announcing Audubon’s 120th Christmas Bird Count and Halstead-Newton’s 70th year participating in community science data.\nYour participation continues to be important! \nInformation:\n• WHERE: Groups will meet at the Museum (27th and Main in\nNorth Newton) at 6:45 AM for group organization and\npaperwork. The final compilation is planned at the Museum at 4:45 PM.\n• WHEN: All regular participants are asked to be on the count for 8 hours if possible. If you cannot participate for the entire day\, it is helpful to find another person to fill out your 8-hour time period. Please let the organizer know of any arrangements that are made.\n• WHO: New participants are welcomed. You are encouraged to recruit other interested persons! Children are welcome. (Note that individuals 12 or under should be accompanied by an adult)\n• WHAT: Bring a pair of binoculars and a sack lunch. (KM will be open at noon for groups who want to eat lunch indoors.) A birding field guide is also helpful. \nContact the organizer by December 12\, so that groups can be appropriately organized. Past group leaders can count circles that they have counted previously.
